Wendell Hayden went to be with his Lord and Saviour on May 8, 2019, at the age of 85. He was born April 4, 1934, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Harold and Ethel Hayden. Wendell and I (Florence Ann) were married September 7, 1953. Our children are Steve (with the Lord), Chris and Wendy.
Wendell accepted Christ as his Saviour while in high school. He attended Faith Bible College in Omaha, and from there he served two years in the Army. After his Army service we applied to Brazil Gospel Fellowship Mission, and in July of 1963 we and our children (then 8, 6 and 2 years of age) left home to serve the Lord in Brazil.
We were missionaries in Brazil a little over 40 years. Wendell served several years as Field Council Chairman and took part in various field ministries such as teaching in our mission’s Bible Institute as well as in our Seminary. He also served as Field Treasurer a number of years and helped with the radio and other field ministries along with his ongoing involvement in planting local churches.
Once we returned to the States in 2003, we enjoyed our ministry with grade school children in a Child Evangelism Fellowship Good News Club. It was a blessing to see some profess Christ as Saviour and many saved children grow in the Lord. Wendell enjoyed our Good News Club ministry until 2017 when he could no longer participate.
After a week’s hospital stay last summer he went to a Care Center from where the Lord took him to Heaven on May 8th.
Wendell was preceded in death by our son Steve, brother Cliff, and parents, Harold and Ethel Hayden. Wendell is survived by our son Chris of Scottsbluff, NE, daughter Wendy of Blue Springs, MO, and brother Paul of Dexter, IA, along with six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
