Everald Newton Holgate (Sonny), 95, went home to be with the Lord May 13th 2019 at Homes Regional Hospital, Palm Bay, Florida. He was the widower of Phyllis Holgate. They shared 47 years of marriage together prior to her passing in 2001.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica on March 21, 1924, “Sonny” as he had been affectionately known as, was the son of Cyril Holgate and Christina Maxwell (both decease). He attended Calabar high school in Kingston Jamaica. In 1948, he migrated to England where he met his wife Phyllis and in 1964 they moved to Boston, Massachusetts in the United States. There he worked as a Machinist. After retirement, Everald and his wife moved to Palm Bay, Florida, in 1986.
He was a member of the Episcopal of Our Savior Church. He enjoyed almost all sports, a few of his favorites were golf, cricket, and boxing. He enjoyed playing table tennis, shooting darts, cards, and dominoes. He also listened to different genres of music and was a great dancer. The undeniable personality traits of Sonny were his generosity to-a-fault and his commitment and love towards his family and friends.
Everald Holgate is survived by his daughter, Marjorie Holgate and his son, Donovan Holgate; eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; his sisters: Ruby Anderson, Elaine Holgate, and Cynthia Stewart; and his brothers: Sedrick Dwyer, Sonny Dwyer, and Carlton Holgate. He was predeceased by his son, Everald Holgate Jr. and siblings: Levi Dwyer, Dyran Dwyer , Ralph Davidson, Sidney Davis, Cicely Dwyer, Louise Dwyer, and Arthur.
His nieces and nephews are: Shirleen Bell, Marian Ellen and Dian Woodbridge , Charley Anderson and many more.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Fountainhead Funeral Home, 7359 Babcock St. SE, Palm Bay, Florida 32909. Viewing is scheduled for 10 AM to 11 AM. Service is scheduled for 11 AM with interment directly after at Fountainhead Memorial Park.
