Bob was born in Los Angeles, California on September 7, 1932 to Goldie (Benton) and Joseph Lord.
After high school, Bob studied at Fresno State University for one year before answering the call to serve his country. As a proud American who loved his country, he voluntarily enlisted in the United States Army in 1952 and was deployed to Korea before being honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1955.
Upon returning home a beautiful young woman named Virginia Jo Ball caught Bob’s eye. Virginia would not only become his best friend, but in 1956 she became his bride in Las Vegas, Nevada. In the ensuing years, Virginia became the mother of his children and his constant partner and companion for the next sixty-three years.
Bob was career minded with a strong work ethic. His entire career was spent as a Sales Manager for Warner Lambert American Chicle. Bob furthered his contributions to his industry by serving with dignity as the president of the Food Industry Sales Managers Club for many years.
In his spare time, Bob enjoyed sailing with friends and family and for many years was a valued member of the Marina Del Rey Yacht Club. He was an active member and volunteer in his beloved church, the Northwest Church in Fresno, California. He was also a member of the Fresno Chapter of the American Legion.
Bob was incredibly intelligent and known for his quick, dry wit. He had a zest for life that captivated those around him. He never met a stranger, and was always ready with a joke. No description of Bob would be complete without acknowledging what a great friend he was to so many people. Bob made friends easily and over the course of his life, he developed and maintained dozens of close friendships which he held dear.
In addition to his wife Virginia, Bob is survived by his son David Lord (Marcy) and their children Dayna Lucas (Matt), Jordan Skornik (Andria), Robert Lord and Matthew Lord; His daughter Diane Roberts (Ron) and their children Robin Pistorio, Daniel Pistorio, Kayli Roberts and Jamie Roberts. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren Myka Lucas, Nora Lucas, Emma Lucas, Jacoby Skornik and Colton Pistorio.
His walk with the Lord was evident in the way he spoke and how he lived his life. He was often heard saying that he sleeps well because he has a “clean conscience and a pure heart.” He loved the Lord with all his heart and is now safe in His loving arms.
Beloved Bob left an indelible mark on his wife, children and grandchildren and so many others in his life. His absence is profound, but he will forever live on in their hearts until they are together again in God’s Eternal Kingdom as He promises.
The family is asking that in lieu of flowers or donations, that you enjoy a sunset, eat some jelly beans or raise a glass in memory of their husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
