Edwin Higgins, 59, of Chatham passed away May 25, 2019 at Liberty Commons from C.O.P.D. Ed was proud to be a native Cape Codder. He was born at the Cape Cod Hospital, lived in Chatham and graduated from Cape Cod Tech in 1980. Ed worked in landscaping and volunteered at Cape Cod Hospital for many years. He spent time at the Chatham Senior Center and Liberty Commons and volunteered at both when he could.
He was preceded in death by his father Edwin, mother Eunice and brother Jimmy. Ed is survived by sisters Glenda, Cindy (Jane), Patty (Gary) and Joanie (Ken) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Ed was a kind and gentle man who enjoyed nature, making and giving greeting cards, volunteering and spending time with friends. He loved helping others and will be truly missed.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5th at Doane, Beal & Ames, 729 Route 134, S.Dennis, MA 02660.
In lieu of flowers donations in Ed’s memory may be made to the Chatham Council on Aging.
The family thanks Liberty Commons for their care and comfort and for fulfilling Ed’s last wish to visit with friends for a cup of coffee at Stop and Shop on May 24th. We also thank the Chatham Council on Aging for all they did for Ed, the Chatham Housing Authority, Stop and Shop and Starbucks for their kindness and support.
