Ms. Dennis was born in Fife Lake, Kalkaska County, Michigan, the daughter of the late Floyd and Pearl (Mockerman) Dennis. She was preceded in death by her twin brother Grover C. Dennis and Clell I. Dennis.
At age 12 she moved to Hoytville, Ohio to live with her grandparents where she graduated Salutatorian from Jackson Township High School in 1946.
In 1947 she attended Warner’s Beauty College in Toledo, Ohio, passed the State Board, obtained her Beauticians License and worked as beautician in Findlay, Ohio until July 1951.
December 1974, Gladys graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree from The University of Toledo.
She began her professional career in 1951 as a telephone operator in Huntington Park, California. A year later she transferred to Toledo, Ohio. After 26 years working in the Bell System and working in four different cities, Gladys would become the first women at Ohio Bell to accept an overseas assignment in Tehran, Iran with American International Bell.
After returning from Iran in 1979, she transferred to Orlando, Florida to work for American Telephone & Telegraph as a researcher. She was assigned to a task force to prepare for divestiture in the Anti-Trust Lawsuit against AT&T, then retiring from AT&T December 31, 1983.
Gladys served faithfully as a member of First Christian Church of Winter Park from 1983. For more than 20 years, she was an active member of The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Some of her favorite activities were needlecraft, community service, bowling, and golf.
Her many friends will always cherish her independence, sense of adventure, quick witted humor, and especially her genuine love and compassion for others.
Gladys is survived by several nieces and nephews in Michigan and Ohio.
Never married, she became a surrogate grandmother to Ren Scott Beaufait and Jon Henry Beaufait, whose mother is Mary Beaufait. They morn her loss and cherish her loving spirit.
A Memorial service for Gladys Mae Dennis will be held 10:30 A.M Saturday June 8, 2019 at First Christian Church of Winter Park, 1140 S. Lakemont Avenue, Winter Park, Florida.
