One of the first memories I have of my Uncle Steve was seeing him dance with Kelly at her wedding. I was very young then, but I still remember the smiles on their faces as they shared that special moment. I got to see this again at Katie’s wedding a little over a year ago, and it was such an enjoyable moment. I will always remember his smile and love for the people in his life. Sending love, hugs, and prayers to Uncle Steve and the entire Mitchell Family <3

What fun memories we have as next door neighbors for close to 30 years. Steve's love for Peggy and his kids was always clear.  He was great to share conversations with "over the fence" when we were out in the yard together.  We'll miss seeing him walking with Puppy.  Steve was so intelligent and his smile was infectious. We are deeply saddened by Steve's passing but also know he leaves behind a strong family filled with love and support.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you Peggy and all the kids and grandkid(s) as your mourn the loss of your husband, father, and grandfather.  Love, Paul & Annette

We are so sorry to hear of your loss, prayers for Steve and the family 

As a high school aged boy, I remember the excitement of gaining an older brother as Peggy and Steve became a couple.  Steve and I became instant friends and he took me under his wing, teaching me new perspectives on life.  I was fascinated by his sense of humor, wisdom beyond his years, unique philosophy, and the many rich life experiences he shared for such young man.  I was incredibly honored when he shared his vision of creating his own landscaping business and asked me to work with him.  I gladly accepted and soon we were passing out thousands of flyers to every mailbox in southern Oakland County advertising our new high quality landscaping service.  We secured around 100 customers that spring of 1981, enough for two guys to stay busy 12 hours per day, 6-7 days/week.  And all that time we spent driving around together in our truck, discussing the world, the current events, our family, and friends.  We laughed, we argued, we cried, and we became thick as thieves as we worked hard and planned our future.  Every morning would start on the bar stools at Dunkin Donuts where we would meet up with brother Mark, have coffee and donuts, discuss sports, business, and politics before hopping in our truck and heading out to do our work.  Steve and I worked together for many years.  He was a brother, a friend, and a mentor to me.  I was blessed to have our friendship and to share those good times.   I love you Steve and look forward to the day when we meet again.  God bless the Mitchell family and all of us whose lives you touched.  

My fondest memories of my Uncle Steve are as a child when I would spend many weeks at his and my Aunt Peggy’s house during the summers with my cousins. I would usually see him reading, cooking or watching a hockey game. I remember him handing out little loot bags of fireworks to us, to run around the property with, but not before giving us a crash course in firework safety. I remember sometimes I would wake up early and go upstairs to find he was the only other one up and he would usually have breakfast ready for all of us to enjoy or coffee cake, as he’d already been up for hours. I remember having discussions with him, and he was always a promoter of critical thinking and deductive reasoning and despite not understanding it all as a child, it has definitely resonated with me as an adult. Seeing him, my Aunt Peggy and visiting my cousins during the summer definitely made my childhood as great as it was. You will be missed.

I would like to send my deepest sympathy to your family for the loss of your husband, father and leader Steve. I’ve only spent a few times with Steve but he was always high energy, full of life and opinions.  Steve was very knowledgeable about almost every subject and loved his family more than anything.  A great man who left this world way too early but left his mark on everybody he touched in his life.  God bless the Mitchell’s. Steve will always be in my heart and your family in my prayers
