On Friday, May 31st, 2019, Roy Francis Barnard, loving father, passed away at the age of 86 of cancer. Roy was born on April 30, 1933, in London England to Richard and Lily (Starky) Barnard. During WW II Roy was separated from his family from age 7 to 12 years old, sent from London to the country because of the bombing of the city. After the war he moved to Brooklyn, New York after immigrating on October 16th 1946 on the HMS Queen Elizabeth I, at 13 years of age with his parents and sister, Brenda. He attended school in Brooklyn until he was 18 years old and in 1951 he joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Walker AFB, Roswell, New Mexico, with the 509th AREFS (SAC). He flew in the Korean War as a navigator and bombardier and was honorably discharged on November 30th, 1955.
On January 2nd, 1955, he married Rosemarie Hohne. They raised seven children, 4 sons, Michael, Peter, Christopher, and David and 3 daughters, Diane, Julie and Susan.
Roy had various careers over his 86 years. He was an air plane mechanic, owned a gas station, ran a construction company, was a Real Estate Agent, owned a seafood restaurant called The Captains Quarters in Babylon, NY, worked at the Sarasota Kennel Club, and was actively working in construction until he was 84.
Roy had a passion and love for animals. Over the years he raised greyhounds, chickens, goats, rabbits, alpacas, many dogs and cats.
Roy became a born again Christian 6 years ago, who loved Jesus in his own special way. Some would say he was an animal and nature lover, but he always prayed for his kids and tried to stand in the gap. God bless him in heaven. Roy’s love is in all his children and we will always love our Dad in Jesus Name.
Roy was preceded in death by his father Richard, mother Lily, sister Brenda (Christensen), wife Rosemarie, daughter Julie and son-in-law Tim Van Saun.
