Gary Keith Franks was born on September 8, 1950 on an Air Force Base in Indian Springs, Nevada to James Alfred Franks and Brenda Margaret Parslow-Franks. He passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at the age of 68. Gary lived in Forney, Texas with his lovely wife Rebekkah Franks of 34 years. When Gary was growing up, he worked with his best friend, Frank Black, selling rainbow vacuum cleaners. This was the beginning of his career as a salesman and a friendship that has remained strong since 1963. Gary always had a passion for classic cars. He and his wife started their own business in car sales and named it EFG Motor Company. This business was a major part of Gary’s life where his friends and family, including his beloved son, Paul Franks, worked along his side for almost 20 years. He later continued working in sales at Ashley Furniture in Mesquite, Texas, and then at D&M Leasing, selling cars again. Gary spent most of his younger years pitching in baseball, hunting, and fishing on Lake Texoma with family and friends. Out of everything, Gary enjoyed being a husband, a father and grandfather most of all. His favorite thing to do was watch his granddaughters play softball with the light of his life, his daughter, Chelsea Whitehurst. Anyone who knew Gary would say he was the most generous, and kind and selfless person, always putting others before himself. He will be remembered as a comical, compassionate and loving man. He could activate a whole crowd talking about his past experiences, and people would listen to him for hours. Towards the last of his days, one of his best friends was his father-in-law, Charlie McReynolds, of Garland, who stayed by his side day after day.
Gary is survived by his wife Rebekkah Franks, daughter Chelsea Whitehurst (and spouse Jeffrey Whitehurst of Forney), son Paul Franks (and spouse Stephanie Franks of Crandall), son Matthew Busby of Connecticut, and son David Sampson of Florida, sister Rubine Marie Franks McCullough (and spouse Jimmy McCullough of Euless), and grandchildren Haylee, Kaycee, and Jaxson Whitehurst, Madison, Mackenzie and Carson Franks, and Chloe Sampson. Gary is preceded in death by both of his parents and his brother Roland Dunkin Franks.
A memorial service will be held at Roselawn Funeral Home in Seagoville, Texas on Friday June 7th, 2019 at 2:00 PM. Officiated by Alton Franks.
