entered this world at 2:15 AM on August 29, 1928 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. She was the second daughter of Gijsbert Moen and Johanna Elizabeth Stark.
In April 1929, her family traveled on the maiden voyage of the S.S. Staterdam to immigrate to the United States of America.
In February 1945, she married Ernest Richard Grant, a World War II Navy veteran. They began their lives together at Crystal Parkway in Union New Jersey where they had three children, Peggy, Nancy and Kenneth. It did not take long for them to move to a beautiful new home in Metuchen, New Jersey where she was to reside for 64 years.
Geertruida was primarily a home maker. After her children had grown she worked for a period of time teaching sewing classes for the Singer Sewing Machine Company in Edison, New Jersey. She was an accomplished seamstress and tailor. Oh, the prom dresses and wedding gowns! She simply loved her job!
Her life was dedicated to serving her family, her church, and her friends and neighbors. She was the perfect example of the compassionate woman; ever the nurturer, the comforter, the rock and foundation upon which her family thrived.
In the fall of 2015, she suffered a stroke. Although she was convalescing in Pennsylvania, she continued to maintain that beautiful home in Metuchen.
Finally, on June 6th at 6:10 PM, she left this life to join her beloved husband, Ernest, from whom she has been separated for 32 years, her parents, Gijsbert and Johanna, her sister, Emma Saxell (Arthur), and her nephew Gilbert III. And those of us left behind, her children, Peggy, Nancy and Kenneth (Beverly), her brother Gilbert Moen, Jr. (Marolyn), her nine grandchildren, her fourteen great-grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews will greatly miss her.
