I was so sorry when I read about this is in the Stanford alumni magazine.  Greg and I were classmates in medical school and over the many years since that time, I kept telling myself that I wanted to reach out and reconnect.  I regret that I did not.  I learned of his passing in 2019 and since that time I have continued to think about him and the times we spent together.  One memory in particular was the time he visited me and my family in NY (my family still remembers that visit fondly).  Others include when he helped teach me how to ride a motorcycle, and the time we visited the ocean West of Stanford.   I am sending my condolences to his family.

A week ago, early June 2020, I looked up Greg's name, to see where he was , in the hopes of reaching out and catching up with him.  I was deeply saddened, and remain so, upon reading of his untimely passing, now nearly a year ago

Greg and I were classmates at Stanford Medical School. Though a few years younger than Greg, we were both from the Chicago area,  we both had a love of basketball, & we were both " gym rats ."    I was an easily " distracted " 1st year Medical Student, shall we say, while Greg was an upper class men, very focused and clearly on his way to greatness.  He was a deep thinker, but also very  handsome and athletic.   Me, on the other hand  it was debatable as to whether or not I would finish the year, let alone the program. For some reason, Greg took a liking to me.  Maybe it was our Midwestern commonality , or because I was a good basketball player, having walked on at Northwestern.  Most of our time together was on and around the basketball court.  He used to really annoy me because he always played with his Sony Walkman on.  Though a good basketball player himself, on more than one occasion, someone would sneak up behind him and steal the ball, because he simply could not hear our warning calls ...  But he impacted me greatly.   1 day, without explicitly saying so, he  convinced me to get rid of my motorcycle,  by simply sharing with me stories about his only brother,  and  how he lost him.  What I admired and loved most about Greg, was that he seemed " color blind . "   We had a lot in common, come to find out, and he never let our different racial/ethnic background get in the way.

I last saw and spoke with Greg in 2005, when I briefly moved back to Peoria/Chicago, and had the pleasure of meeting his wife and children over lunch.  It was chaotic, as my children were 2 and 4, and his were small as well.

I am hoping to provide some support for the clinic that Greg volunteered at, both directly, and indirectly, in his memory


















We were shocked to learn about Dr. Adamson’s sudden demise. Central Illinois has truly lost a master Orthopedist.  As a Rheumatologist, I had many patients who were seen by Dr. Adamson for their surgical therapy needs. He was an excellent doctor who knew the importance of early diagnosis and referral for these patients with inflamed joints. He provided timely and optimal care to our mutual patients in his office and the hospital.  Always available to talk on the phone. Always there to share his inputs on the challenging clinical presentations.
We often met in the Proctor hospital’s Physician lounge over the lunchtime.  I enjoyed listening to his views on life in general, life in and out of medicine, religion, civic duties, Peoria, National politics, health politics, travel experiences and upbringing of his children. Always straight to the point, and with a touch of humor and wisdom. 

Dr. Adamson was truly a remarkable and an accomplished person. Simplicity, clarity and mastery personified. 

RIP Dr. Adamson. He will be missed. His family and friends are in our prayers. 

Debbie and I just learned of your tragedy and we are so very sad. Greg was so helpful to me and did such great work with PMS, ISMS, and Peoria County Board.  A huge asset to our community and state in so many ways. Michelle, we are hugging you in our prayers.  May somehow the miracle of Christ’s Peace, soothe you in the time ahead.  . . . Dr. Adamson was a tremendous surgeon and person.  He helped me and my family through our orthopedic tribulations, was always quick with his dry wit and always took the time to explain everything in great detail and made sure we understood before going further.  He will be sorely missed in a variety of facets and our prayers are with his family and staff.  May God bless him.

Adamson Family:  I am so sorry to hear about the sudden passing of Dr. Adamson.  He was there for me as a doctor and a friend when I went through a very rough period in my life.  I got to know the kids (Hannah, Clayton, and Lily) when I would babysit for them every so often.  The thing I remember most about him, was the way that he listened no matter if it was about an injury or something else.  He always took time to explain things in a manner that everyone could understand.  I always treasure the day that he allowed me to observe a couple of his surgeries.  To me, he was larger than life.  It is comforting to me to know that after he breathed his last breath here on earth, he breathed his first breath in the presence of our Lord and savior.  Michelle and Kids- There are not enough words that anyone could say to lessen any of the pain that you are feeling.  Just know that there are a lot of people praying for you.  Praying that Jesus will wrap his loving arms around you and that one day, you can find peace.  

In Nov/Dec of 2003 I went to Dr. Adamson seeking his help with my right tricep. I explained how the injury occurred and how it had been treated to that point. He immediately knew what was wrong and told me that I had ruptured my tricep tendon. He was very upset that my family doctor had not diagnosed my injury. He immediately scheduled me for surgery and assured me that he would get me fixed up. At that point I knew I was in good hands.  I just remember his professionalisms, wisdom and his confidence.  My heart is broken hearing of his sudden passing. I will never forget him!!

Greg loved God, and he worked in God's vineyard to make Him known.
Greg loved the poor and he served them well.
Greg was meek with a tinge of cockiness which showed in his smile.
Greg loved justice and he fought for it.
Greg showed mercy and compassion to those who came to him broken of body.
Greg comforted those who mourned.
Greg loved peace, and he worked for it in his community.
Greg was a warrior for righteousness, he fought the battles and forged on.
Greg encountered opposition for his beliefs, but he ran the race well and, now, his reward is great in heaven.
Greg was our son-in-law, and we loved him dearly.  Our hearts are broken, but our Faith comforts us, for we know he is in the arms of his God.

I am truly saddened by the passing of such a kind, compassionate, and skilled physician.  Dr. Adamson listened well which is a gift he shared with many.

I so appreciate his gentle care and honest assessment of the then and now level of performance and healing ascribed to my injury.  

He will missed for so many reasons.  My prayers and condolences are extended to his family, friends, and current patients...such a loss.

Highly recommended and very professional, I very quickly came to also regard him as a friend. We had many humorous exchanges to go with his excellent care. He will be missed. 

Dr. Adamson was the first doctor I worked with after just finishing school to be a surgical tech.  It is a stressful position let alone in orthopedics.  He was wonderful, patient and always so kind to his patients and staff.  I enjoyed my time with him and am so saddened that the area has lost such a gifted individual.  My thoughts are with all of you at such a trying time.  I hope one day the memories you've made will make you smile without the tears.  My sincere condolences to you and the family.

I was the center for Greg the quarterback for most of the 1977 high school football season.  I was not the greatest athlete.  Although a year my junior, he was a leader and he made me feel like I was an important part of the team.  A couple years later, we were both lifeguards at the Oregon pool.  At the time he was on a kick where he only ate microwaved white meat chicken, obviously a harbinger of his future fitness obsession.  He once referred to Doritos as "death chips"; I think about that virtually every time I eat one.  What an accomplished person Greg became.

I consider Parke a lifelong friend.  Although time and distance has forced us along different paths,  he remains one of my favorite people on the planet.  I can't imagine losing a brother, Parke has lost two.  Know that you are in my thoughts as you traverse this difficult time.  Ellen, you're in my thoughts as well.  Peace to all.

We grieve with you in losing Greg so suddenly....Rich is so grateful to have been able to spend some time with you and Greg just the day before.  Greg was so deep, so thoughtful, so kind.  He was loyal and selfless.  Rich always considered him a friend and brother in Christ.  

We will miss him, and pray for God's presence and comfort for you and your family now.

Dr. Adamson was an amazing man & doctor.  He performed both of my surgeries on my right wrist/hand.  Always took the time to listen to you, look you in the eye when he talked to you, asked about you & he truly cared.  After the surgery on my wrist I had complications & he met me at the office around 2 am to fix the problem, he is one of a kind!  One of my favorite things about Dr. Adamson is his sense of humor and he loved my tattoos.

We have lost truly one of the great one!

I worked with Dr Adamson for years at METHODIST Hospital. He was such a kind and gentle man. A great surgeon and always a pleasure to work with.  His music and stories about his children were always the topic of the conversation. God bless his wife and family. My thoughts and prayers are with you .

Dr. Adamson  will never be forgotten. I have always been petrified of drs. But when I was having problems with my wrist he knew I was scared. He knew what to say and do. I met Dr. Adamson when I visited Peoria last year as ISMS President. He was such a kind, warm, funny and engaging host. He made me feel welcome and comfortable and I have such fond memories of that day. I am shaken by his sudden and tragic death. I can't even imagine the loss his close friends and family must feel. I had a severe arm injury in 2010.  Dr. Adamson orchestrated my transfer and surgery with Dr. Cohen (a trama ortho surgeon in Chicago).  I have great use of my arm and have been forever grateful to Dr. Adamson for his abilities during post surgery follow up as well as his wisdom when he realized the full extent of my injury and transferred me.  We had a great rapport... he teased me endlessly about giving up the motorcycle and buying a red convertible.  I was many years his senior and enjoyed our banter.  We shared faith and family discussions...  I appreciated him as a doctor and doubly so as a person.   I know his passing will leave an immense void in your family.  Your entire family will be in my prayers.

Dr.  Adamson had a charming personality, always helpful and will be missed greatly. God bless and comfort his soul and give patience to his family to endure this loss.

Greg was a faithful Christian who lived his life to serve others.  As a fellow County Board Member, he taught me much and always focused on what was best for the citizens of Peoria County.  I am saddened by his sudden loss and I will honor him by applying his lessons in my service on the county board.  Sympathies to Michelle and his family.

I grew up with the Adamson family in Oregon, IL in the 1970s/80s. I'll always remember Greg as a smart, athletic and, most importantly, kind & loving soul. He named his son after one of my best friends, his brother Clayton, whom we also lost too soon. Please accept my prayers & heartfelt condolences. 

Dr. Adamson has done 3 separate surgeries on my husband and he was the very best... I cannot believe he is gone. What a kind, gifted man he was. I've never had such faith and trust and respect for any doctor as much as Dr. Adamson. He is irreplaceable and our hearts are saddened, and we are praying for this family. He knew the Lord, and so my great joy and hope is in knowing we'll see him again.

Dr. Adamson or Greg as he preferred,was my surgeon after I got frostbite to my fingers.He was so pleasant to me and my family when we would come to his office for follow ups He will surely be missed .Our prayers are with his family and his medical family

Uncle Greg, you were a terrific loving man and I am honored to be part of your family.  You were brilliant, giving, and raised my cousins well.  I will never forget my visits to your house, playing operation with Clayton and Hannah, watching The Wizard of Oz, and running around the backyard.  You were taken too soon, your family will miss you dearly.

Both myself & my husband were patients of Dr Adamson’s.  He did an amazing job with Russ’ hand surgery.  I admired his sharing of his faith.  He was such a caring doctor like no other we have been to.   He & Russ talked farming during his hand surgery.  Russ will always appreciate that.

My sincere sympathies to Dr. Adamson's family. He was a wonderful, kind, and respectful man.  I always enjoyed working with him in Ortho surgery at Methodist and again at the Center for Health Surgery Center.  He played Boston Pops in Love and Dinah Washington's Blue Gardenia CDs in the OR. They became my favorites,  and I had to order them . Over the years when I listen to them, I remember him in the OR. I am so blessed I had the opportunity to work with him.  I pray you will find comfort and peace in your memories and knowing that so many loved and respected him.

Words cannot express how saddened I am by the news of his passing.  I met Dr. Adamson and his family thru our church and he and his family have always been at the top of my list of kindest people I have ever met in my whole life. He will be greatly missed and my deepest sympathies go out to his family and those that knew him. 

What an amazing man Dr. A was.  He saved my arm back in 2017.  I had a horrible infection that was misdiagnosed and told him I was a musician and he said don't worry we will save that arm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I had numerous doctor visits over a 6 month period after he performed 3 surgeries on me.  He was a genius simply put.  So much fun and made the appointments that involved a good amount of pain in the beginning tolerable.  We had so many talks during that time.  I am going to miss him dearly.  Rest in Peace Dr. Adamson.    

I worked with Dr. Adamson in OSF surgery from 1999 to 2013.  He also did surgery on my dad's arm 2 years ago. I always enjoyed his laugh and his calm, assertive demeanor.  He was an excellent surgeon and family man.  He had the best walk down the surgery hall! Prayers of comfort to his family and friends that lost a great man too soon.  He really was a great blessing to everyone he met. I'm sorry for your loss. 

As a medical professional I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Adamson several times over the last few years with some difficult cases.  He was kind, professional and one of the best hand surgeons I have had the pleasure to work  with. 
My sincere condolences to the family of this wonderful man and amazing physician.   He will be missed.

I worked with Dr Adamson for 9 years & he was always so kind & had the best stories.  His family meant everything to him & he treated his patients as though they were family. Besides seeing him as a patient, the true blessing was hearing his love for his Lord.  He was bold in his profession of Jesus being his love.  He was a wonderful surgeon and man of God.
