September 20 1936 – June 11, 2019
On June 11, 2019, loving husband of Joyce (née Peacock), beloved father of Stephen (Joanne O’Brien) and
Brian (Tracy Viggers), adoring Grandpa to Brianna Whiteway (Dave Whiteway), Cole Hewitt (Cassi
Myshak), Emily Swindells (Dustin Swindells), Olivia Hewitt and Spencer O’Brien, passed away peacefully
at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket, ON. He will also be missed by his great
granddaughters Brooklyn and Zoey Whiteway, and Avah Swindells. He is survived by his brother-in- law
Desmond McCartney and his nephews Craig and David McCartney. Bob is pre-deceased by his sister-inlaw
Bernice McCartney (née Peacock) and his parents George and Erma Hewitt (née Heise) of Lakefield,
Ontario.
Bob was born on Ossington Avenue in Toronto and attended Jesse Ketchum Public School and Central
Technical School. Bob was a faithful member of Kappa Chi at Fairlawn United Church. Bob’s career
started in sales at Jet Metal in Toronto. Years later he joined the team at Modern Redwood, and eventually
retired from Brocklin Toys of Middleton NS.
Bob, a lover and supporter of amateur musical theatre, was a founding member of North Toronto Players
(formerly St. Timothy’s Players). He appeared in many leading comic roles in various Gilbert and Sullivan
productions during his 45 years of involvement.
Bob had an affinity for horses and wildlife. When not bird watching, Bob would be found working
tirelessly in the garden or playing in the sand on the golf course.
Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday June 17, 2019 at Trinity Anglican Church, 79 Victoria
Street in Aurora, Ontario. For those wishing, donations may be made to the Michael J Fox Foundation
