Carmen R DeAngelis (Carm) was born on Feb 26, 1932 and grew up in Chicago, Illinois. The child of Italian immigrants, Carm, a perpetual learner, went to Iowa Wesleyan College and graduated in 1954. After college graduation, he was drafted and immediately went into the US Army during the Korean War leaving the Army in 1956. After the Army, Carm started teaching in the City of Chicago as his first teaching experience after college. He also started working on his Master’s in Education from Loyola University in Chicago at the same time. While in Chicago, Carm met the love of his life, Patricia "Pat" Lloyd, early 1961 and they were married later that year.
Carm spent 42 years as an educator of young minds. He focused his efforts in the area of Special Education where he holds multiple Education Specialist Degrees earned over his career. Carm loved singing and spent his limited spare time singing in barbershop style singing groups most recently in the Harbor City Harmonizers of Brevard County Florida. Carm also spent time reaching out to young people and sharing his love of music, enjoying the educational process even after retiring.
Carm and Pat, raised 5 children and spent 57 married, love-filled years together. Carm is survived by his wife Pat and five children: Christine (Parker) Rushnell of Grant-Valkaria, Florida; Kathleen (Michael) Plunkett of Lodi, Wisconsin; Rosemary (Timothy) Laird of Melbourne; Florida, Roxane (James) Shimmin of Suwanee, Georgia; and Mario DeAngelis of Salt Lake City, Utah; along with 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday June 23, 2019 from 3 - 5 PM at Life Center at Florida Memorial , 5950 US-1, Rockledge, FL 32955. Funeral mass for Carmen will be held Monday, June 24, 2019 at10 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 5655 Stadium Pkwy, Melbourne, FL , with burial side service held at Florida Memorial Gardens, 5950 US-1, Rockledge, FL after mass. Reception immediately following burial service will be held at St John the Evangelist.
