Michael Charles Beaton passed away on June 5th, 2019 at 40 years young in his Walker Louisiana residence. His father, Cyril Beaton of Antigonish, NS and mother, Maureen Davis of Holyrood, NF welcomed him into the world on December 14th, 1978 in St John’s, Newfoundland. He is survived by his loving parents, sisters Stephanie Beaton Ruby, Mallory Beaton and wife Leslie Edwards Beaton and stepchildren, Mason, and Brendon Rivere. Michael was a supportive son, protective brother, admiring Uncle, adoring husband, and a proud to be stepfather.
Michael’s loyalty, work ethic, and ability to motivate others made him a natural born leader. At a young age, you would find him practicing relentlessly on the ice, traveling to hockey tournaments across the northeast and collecting sportsmanship awards. He made waves when announced as the first freshman captain of Taconic High School’s hockey team in Pittsfield, Ma where he graduated in 1997. His education and athletics continued at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth from 1997 to 2001. He captained the lacrosse team three years in a row and elected as president of Beta Theta Pi before gaining his degree.
After working part-time for Planet Fitness in college, he never looked back. His intelligence and drive would have made him successful in any field, but the 20-year-old Michael had a dream – gym ownership. Regardless of his position, gym management to corporate, regardless of location, New Hampshire to Illinois, he knew Planet Fitness was the company for him. Fulfillment of his dream came within arm’s reach during 2010. An opportunity to open, manage, and grow locations for a percentage of ownership had him moving across the country once again. He launched ten gyms throughout Louisiana before preparing his next move to Florida. His goal of being closer to family did not come to fruition as we all had expected.
The Lord God had other plans and decided Michael needed to be home with Him and so it is. To God, we thank You for blessing us with Michael for 40 years, he brought so much joy to our lives and although we are truly devastated by our loss and feel broken at this point, I know we have to trust in You. We will treasure every memory and he is now at peace, never to hurt again.
Michael is remembered by those who had the privilege to know him as a strong, kind, generous, and joyful man. His presence will be missed by many, especially his closest friends and family.
