NEW IBERIA - A Mass of Christian Burial for Minos J. Breaux, 94, will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 21, 2019 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in New Iberia, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at the Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home in Reserve, Louisiana. Rev. William Blanda will be the celebrant, and he will be laid to rest at Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery in Delcambre, Louisiana.
A gathering of family and friends and visitation will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in New Iberia on Friday, June 21, 2019 from 8:00 -10:00 a.m. with a Holy Rosary prayed at 9:30 am.
Minos was born June 6, 1925 in Jefferson Island to the late Edrase Breaux and Anita David Breaux, and was a lifelong resident of New Iberia. He is a World War II and Korean War Veteran, having served in the United States Marine Corps as part of the Air Corps ground crew on the U.S.S. Essex aircraft carrier in the South Pacific during World War II, and in the United States Airforce during the Korean War.
Minos was a mechanic by trade, working in his early years in the salt mine of his native Jefferson Island, then as operator of his own auto mechanic and body repair shop in New Iberia, and later as an industrial mechanic cultivating skills as a pipefitter, millwright, inspector and ultimately serving as the construction site superintendent and manager of oilfield fabrication yards at the Port of Iberia and sugar mill construction projects throughout Louisiana.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Marine Corps League. In his retirement years, he volunteered as an usher at St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
He was respected by those he worked with and loved by his many family and friends.
Survivors include his wife Irene L. Breaux of New Iberia, his son, James Lee Breaux and wife Chelle of Covington; and his granddaughter, Anna Katherine Breaux of Covington
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Wilson Breaux, Edward Breaux, Eula B. Judice, Dilta B. LeBlanc, Maud B.Viator and Jessie Breaux.
Members of the family will serve as pallbearers.
