Elvira was born in Orsogna, Italy, to her late parents, Vincenzo and Rachele Galante. She immigrated to America in her early teens and lived in Astoria with her parents. She met her beloved, Luke D’Angelo, soon after her arrival in America. Luke served in the army in Korea and they continued their romance through hundreds of letters. They were engaged soon after his return home and were married on April 25, 1954. They lived in Astoria and then in Whitestone and in 1972 they settled in Copiague in their dream home, and here is where they raised their family.
Elvira loved to sew and especially to cook for family and friends.
Elvira is predeceased by her beloved husband, Luke; and her sister, Carmela D'Angelo. She is survived by her children - Joseph (Karen) D'Angelo, Vincent (Kathleen) D'Angelo and Annette (William) Schwaninger; her grandchildren - Sara (Frank) Hatsis, Vincent D'Angelo, Jr., Erica (Matthew) Van Pelt, Jaclyn Schwaninger and Nicole Schwaninger; her great-granddaughter, Elysia Burdi; and her sister, Laurina Fosco.
Family and friends will gather at the funeral home for visitation on Tuesday evening from 7:00 - 9:30 p.m., and on Wednesday from 2:00-4:30 and 7:00-9:30 p.m. At 8 p.m., the Catholic Wake Service will be offered. On Thursday, all will meet at the Funeral Home by 8:15 a.m. (The funeral home will open at 7:30 a.m.) Morning prayers will begin at approximately 8:45 a.m., and we depart for Our Lady of Perpetual Help R.C. Church in Lindenhurst, by 9:15. The Funeral Mass begins at 9:45 a.m. The cortege will depart for St. Michael's Cemetery in East Elmhurst, Queens, with an arrival time of 12 Noon.
