Joe was born March 13, 1923, the son of Andrew and Mary Bott. Joe joined the Air Force and served in World War II. There he acquired a love of planes and went on to own and pilot his own latter in life. He was always an excellent student. He graduated from UMKC law school as the highest ranking student in his class a year ahead of schedule and received a set of Vernon Law Books for his accomplishment. Joe was a shrewd and dedicated attorney, and zealously represented his many clients. He practiced law for over 60 years, and maintained an active law license for over 71 years.
In 1962, Joe met his loving, kind wife, Lorene Bott (Reenie). They were married on June 7, 1963. Their bond lasted 51 years, until he lost his Reenie in 2014. Joe loved his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored. Joe particularly loved spending time at Lake Lotawana with his family, a close bunch that included his daughter Linda Blando, son-in-law Joe Blando, his grandchildren, sons Joe Bott Junior and Tom Bott. Those close to Joe admired his dedication to family as well as his great wit and sense of humor.
He was a good golfer and after he slowed down his law practice retreated to Florida for the winters where he golfed, boated and spent time being active and full of life. Joe was always testintg limits whether it be piloting his own air craft, driving a small boat on the inland water way or driving to church at 94 with 5 inches of snow on the ground. He was an extremely hard worker. Joe lived his life by the wise words of St. Ignatius. Pray as though everything depended on God. Work as though everthing depended on you.
Joe was preceded in death by his loving wife, parents, Son Tom Bott and siblings Teresa, Margaret and Andy. He is survived by his son Joe Bott II, daughter Linda Blando and her husband Joe, and four beloved grandchildren, Brian, Steven, Brandon, and Lauren. Joe and Reenie’s active role in the lives of their grandchildren was truly a blessing.
His family would like to thank those who cared for Joe in the end. His caregiver Joyce and the wonderful staff at the Hospice House on Wornall.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
