She attended Spring Branch High School. On December 20, 1953 Joy married James Carlton Phillips Who preceded her in death. They had four sons from that union, James Ray Phillips, Alan Dale Phillips, Bobby Phillips, and Robbin Phillips.
Joy loved to hand quilt. She would frequent garage sales and have garage sales of her own. She also enjoyed traveling.
Joy passed away on Monday July 1, 2019.
