STOKES, CHARLES L, 95, of Tampa Bay, died July 1, 2019 at Wright's Health Care & Rehabilitation. Born in Golden, IL, he came here from Crystal Lake, IL in 1969. He retired in 1987 as a Quality Control Inspector in the space industry, producing subcomponents for the Space shuttle program in the 1970s and 1980s. He was a born again Christian. He married Betty Fleischer in 1946, having met her in the church choir. He was a veteran of WWII and part of a Philippine Civil Affairs Unit that fed, clothed and employed the people as they returned to their homes after hiding in the mountains during the Japanese occupation. He later was a member of a Military Government Team that governed a Korean province at the end of the war.
Survivors include a daughter, Maggie; a son, Dan; three granddaughters, Katie, Jenny and Emily; four great-grandsons, Zachary, Caleb, Noah and Luke and two Great-granddaughters, Anna and Elizabeth.
