Scott Leslie Hyden died on July 5th, 2019, surrounded by his family. He dealt with the effects of Pulmonary Fibrosis for several years, but after a few months of his condition progressing he contracted a virus that ultimately caused his respiratory system to fail. Scott was born on March 27, 1965 to Loretta and Seymour Hyden in Suffern, New York, and grew up in Parsippany, New Jersey and Littleton, Colorado. He attended the University of Colorado in Boulder, graduating with a degree in Accounting in 1987. He worked for Peat Marwick for two years before attending the Duke University Fuqua School of Business, where he met many lifelong friends and earned a Master of Business Administration in 1991. Scott moved to Dallas, Texas to work for American Airlines, where he met his wife, Kris. They were married in Dallas in 1993, and after briefly living in Atlanta, Georgia, they settled in Coppell, Texas, where they had two children, Sarah and Emma. Scott was a well-liked, vibrant member of the community and was known by his peers and the friends of his daughters alike as a fun-loving, dedicated dad. He had a successful career in the travel industry that spanned several companies, including, most recently, Travelport and Carlson Wagonlit Travel; he was a friend, mentor, and leader to many and valued connecting with the people he met while travelling around the world. Scott lived life with joy and curiosity and cared for his family above everything. His positive outlook and infectious laugh impacted everyone around him, and he was always quick to ask questions and make friends.
Scott is survived by his family, including his wife, Kristen Hyden, and two daughters, Sarah and Emma; his parents, Loretta and Seymour Hyden; his sister, Lisa Carrieri, and nieces, Jessica and Lauren; his in-laws, Marilin and Jeff Kelley; his brother-in-law, Jeff Kelley, and his wife, Jackie, along with their children, his niece Melissa and nephew, Reed; as well as his beloved dog, Harley. An organ donor who needed new lungs, Scott was ultimately able to make several donations that will be used to help others in need.
A celebration of Scott’s life will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, July 21st at the Coppell Senior & Community Center (345 W Bethel Road, Coppell, TX 75019). He told his family before he died, “I want you to have a party where my friends can talk about how funny I am and have a beer.”
In lieu of flowers, the Hyden family requests that donations be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation at pulmonaryfibrosis.org.
