Martin, better known as Marty, was born March 3, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY to Sarah and Samuel Spector. He was the middle child with two brothers.
In 1953, Marty joined the Army after the Korean War. He was stationed in Hawaii and served until 1957 when he returned to Brooklyn.
He married his soulmate Ruth Glazer on August 6, 1960. He earned a degree in economics from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York. For many years, he worked as a sales representative for major hardware companies, until he and his wife Ruth became partners as distributors of Tupperware in their shared hometown. They worked together side by side for over 18 years. They went on to raise three children, Jeffrey, Phyllis and Steven in Marlboro, NJ.
Marty loved baking, cooking and serving his community. Marty served as a member and later as president of the board for his community at Four Seasons in Lakewood, NJ. His family coveted his onion rolls and most of all his chocolate cake that any celebration would be incomplete without. Marty also baked the most delicious challah bread, and his love for baking later became a vehicle for his charity work. He baked hundreds of thousands of challahs and sold them to his friends and neighbors. Then, he donated the proceeds to Deborah Hospital. Over his years of charitable baking, Marty had raised and donated over $20,000 to Deborah Hospital.
Marty was a voracious reader and he loved old movies, especially war and cowboy films. He had a quick smile and an infectious laugh. He was a positive person who would help any person in need, especially his family. He would never turn down an opportunity to help others. He lived his life sharing his positivity and generous spirit with anybody who needed a hand. Marty would never deny a friend, neighbor or family member his time or compassion.
Marty is survived by the love of his life and soulmate Ruth. Marty and Ruth were together over 61 years and were inseparable. They have a love like no other. His three children Jeff, Phyllis and Steven gave him and Ruth 7 grandchildren, Ryan 21, Cameron 19, Sage 19, Noah, 14, Ryan 14, Isaac 5 and Jacob 2 who all brought him great joy and pride.
He loved to spoil his family especially his grandchildren. Birthdays, holidays, and sometimes just because, he created custom greeting cards that usually included a fresh bill, and always included an “I love you.” His family will always remember his generosity, positivity and compassion.
His funeral will take place at Temple Beth Or, 200 Van Zile Road, Brick NJ at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2019 followed by a veterans burial at Brigadier General William C.
