Ruby Gladys (King) Carlson, age 95, peacefully passed away July 9, 2019. She and her twin sister, Freda Opal (King) Owen, were born in Independence, Missouri on May 25, 1924 to Fred K. and Gladys Opal (McQuerry) King. Ruby's lost her mother at child birth, she died about an hour after Ruby & her twin sister were born.
Ruby Gladys and Freda Opal live with their grandmother and father in Independence, Missouri until they were 2 years old, then their father remarried and they blessed with a 1/2 brother, Fred K. King, Jr., born in 1928.
Ruby's education began at Noland Elementary School, then on to Jr. High School in Independence, graduating from William Chrisman High School, Class of 1942. After graduating she went to work at Sears in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1947 Ruby married the late James Paschall, they were blessed with 25 years together until his passing in 1971. In 1972 she was blessed with a second marriage to the late Willard C. Carlson, together they raised her stepsons, Dwight W. and Daniel H. Carlson. Ruby and Willard shared 32 blissful years together. Willard passed away in 2004. Ruby really missed him as they were able to share a lot of quality time together after his retirement. Traveling became their favorite past time.
Ruby professed her faith in Christ at an early age. She was Baptist until 1976, she then joined Messiah Lutheran Church in Independence, Missouri under the leadership of Pastor Emeritus Jon Nicolaus. Messiah Lutheran Church was Ruby's home church until the day she died, currently under the leadership of Pastor Bart Mueller. Ruby loved her church and had many close friends there. She was no stranger to work and was employed at Sears for nearly 20 years, until 1964 after which, she worked at Sheffield Drug Store for 15 years.
Ruby was a loving, elegant woman. She dearly loved her family, her friends, especially her church friends. She loved to work in her yard, always planting plenty of beautiful flowers.
Ruby is preceded in death by her parents, her twin sister who died in 1978, her half brother and both husbands.
Left to cherish Ruby's memory is her nephews; Bill Paschall, Harrel Owen and George Owen; step sons Dwight W. Carlson and Daniel H. Carlson; 3 step grandchildren; special friend Gordon Noland and other loving family and friends.
She will be greatly missed!
