Barbara Buehler was born December 21,1939 in Montclair, New Jersey. The youngest of three children born to Carl J. Buehler and Catherine Dougherty Buehler, Barbara moved to Fort Lauderdale in her teens. She attended Central Catholic High School (now St. Thomas Aquinas) where she was a cheerleader and an excellent student. Barbara met her future husband, Norman Conrey in high school and they married in 1959. Together they had two daughters, Cherie and Debbie. Barbara worked as a teacher’s aide at Tedder Elementary School while earning her real estate license. She was a successful real estate agent in the Pompano Beach area for 41 years, with over 30 years at Campbell and Rosemurgy. A consummate professional with an incredible work ethic, Barbara continued to sell real estate until her passing. A multi-million-dollar producer well-respected among her contemporaries, working with her clients was Barbara’s true passion.
Barbara was well known for placing flags at every home in her farm area and often received notes of thanks from residents. She was also active in the community, attending community information forums and keeping residents abreast of local issues. Barbara’s artistic side shined when she helped decorate the Knights of Columbus hall for many social functions. Barbara was a very spiritual person and an avid church goer, and she volunteered as a CCD teacher at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Pompano Beach.
After her divorce, Barbara met George Cornelius in the 1970’s. George and Barbara loved to dance at the Pompano Beach Elks Club on Saturday nights. Many stopped to watch as George twirled his lady gracefully across the dance floor. They also enjoyed cruising vacations together. Barbara and George married on August 12, 2000, and Barbara was widowed in October 2005.
In 2006, Allen Hayward entered Barbara’s life. For 13 years, they have been partners traveling extensively around the country, cruising around the world and going to the movies. Barbara was known as a loving, caring, woman with a beautiful soul, who had a strong appreciation of life while being driven to provide for those around her.
While her professional career was important, nothing gave Barbara more joy than raising her daughters. Barbara is survived by her daughters Cherie Dangerfield (Steve) and Debbie Haley (Matt). Barbara also took great joy in her granddaughters Lauren, Catherine, and Meagan Haley.
Barbara was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2014. The disease attacked her bones, but she battled through it with dignity, strength, and grace. The family will accept visitors at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 200 West Copans Rd, Pompano Beach, on Sunday, July 21 from 4-6 PM. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 22 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Pompano Beach.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation in Barbara’s name to the Healthwell Foundation, an organization that assists patients with chronic or life-altering diseases. Donations can be made at https://www.healthwellfoundation.org/donate/.
