Margaret (better known as Peggy by most everyone) was born on April 3rd, 1926 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was the second of 6 children. Her older sister died as an infant, leaving Peggy the oldest and in later years a major caretaker of her siblings. Her mother always worked away from home to help support the growing family. As a result, Peggy learned very young to be a hard worker and a reliable person. In 1939 her parents divorced and she went with her father to live in New York. She lived in New York for 2 years and then moved to California with her father. She attended several high schools, graduating from Manual Arts in Southwest Los Angeles. While she attended high school, she worked part time at the Broadway Department Store. She started at the Broadway as a cashier and wrapper and worked her way up to Senior Secretary. It was at this time that she and George became acquainted, dated, and married in 1945 at Saint Anselm’s Catholic Church in Inglewood, California. Originally being a Baptist, she was Baptized a Catholic and received her First Communion on her wedding day. She continued to work at the Broadway and had the opportunity to learn the main telephone switchboard. She then went on to become the Chief Operator at the new Broadway Crenshaw.
She and George started their family in 1950 with the birth of Michael. Then, in 1953, the twins, Steven and Kevin came along and completed their family. They lived in a small apartment in the Saint Cecilia’s parish in Southwest Los Angeles where Peggy was Confirmed and the children were baptized. Peggy sang in choir at Saint Cecilia’s for a number of years. The family then moved to their first house in Saint John the Evangelist parish where the children attended school and Peggy became very involved in the parish and school activities. She was a room mother for each one of her sons, a paper drive chairman, a cub scout leader, and little league mom also.
When Michael reached high school age, he was interested in attending Don Bosco Technical High School in Rosemead, so in due time the family moved to Alhambra where Peggy and George lived for 38 years. The family attended All Souls Parish for over 25 years, and then chose to attend Saint Therese Church in North Alhambra where Peggy was one of the faithful who visited the Adoration Chapel for a number of years. She also became a Eucharistic Minister and helped with Communion distribution on a regular basis. She also volunteered to be Coordinator of Ministers to the Alhambra Gardens Retirement Home.
Peggy and George’s sons eventually married and moved on while Peggy and George continued to live in Alhambra. Peggy’s marriage to George lasted for over 58 years at which time Peggy lost her beloved George after a 6 ½ year illness. During his time of illness, George was cared for at home by Peggy. After George’s passing, Peggy sold the large family home in Alhambra and moved to Corona to be closer to her three sons. She was very happy with the move to her new home where she loved to care for her beautiful rose garden.
In 2009 Peggy decided to accept the invitation of Steven and Mai to come and live with them as Peggy was suffering from Arthritis and it was becoming more difficult to handle all the responsibilities and chores of her home ownership. After living with Steve and Mai for over 2 years, Peggy moved to Bradford Square Assisted Senior Living community, later to be known as Sunrise Villa Bradford where she made many new friends, and was an Official Welcoming Ambassador for over a year. When it became necessary for Peggy to need more assistance, she moved to Brookdale-North Euclid Senior Living Facility in Ontario until her passing.
Peggy was a very caring, generous person who found good in everyone and was always there to serve in whatever way she could.
