Trudy Coffey Hennings of Greensboro, NC, left this earthly plane Wednesday, June 10, 2019, to meet her Heavenly Father. Trudy is survived by her only daughter, Laura Hennings O’Byrne, her son-in-law, Michael O’Byrne, and her three grandsons, Logan Rose, Justin O’Byrne, and Alan O’Byrne. At the time of passing, Trudy was in the care of Hospice and Palliative Care at Beacon Place in Greensboro, NC, holding Laura’s hand.
Trudy was a fierce and loving woman who worked hard her whole life. She valued a solid work ethic, honesty, integrity, and loyalty. She worked at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro and retired from the Human Resources department in 2008. Trudy was known as one to go to when you needed something done correctly and quickly. She thoroughly enjoyed her work, but just as much enjoyed getting home to her beloved pets for an evening of television or with her friends to play Canasta or enjoy a celebratory dinner. She was grateful for every moment with each of her friends.
She walked in her faith knowing God was always with her, even in the face of illness over the past years. Trudy embraced every soul she encountered. She was loving and kind. She entered Hospice care in the Spring of 2017 only to be called what she thought was hilarious-a “live exit” in the spring of 2018. The gift of time was given to all as her indomitable will allowed all surrounding her to live and love and laugh with her until God called her home.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 14th, 3:30 pm at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel with burial to follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, if you wish to memorialize Trudy, please donate to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro or the NC Children’s Home Society. Trudy loved a beautiful flower, but she gained the magnificent gift of time through Hospice, and the gift of the most beautiful mother-daughter relationship one could ever have through adoption. We cannot think of a better way to give thanks for her friendship than through supporting those who supported her.
