Bernadine was born on December 11,1939. Her parents were Grover and Burrell Soliday. She spent her childhood in Omaha. She was a faithful family member and friend. Bernie loved all and she was loved by all. She always talked with everyone and had the warmest presence. Her family meant everything to her and they greatly miss her vibrant presence every day.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Erwin and five siblings, Katherine Sommers, Dorothy Williams, Grover Soliday, James Soliday, and Earl Soliday. Erwin and Bernie met in an elevator while she was working as an elevator operator and they got married on May 23, 1959. A few years after, they built a home in Grenta, NE where they raised their 4 kids and always enjoyed having their grandchildren over and also her great grandchildren. They loved to travel and take their family up to the big horn mountains. They went on many cruises and were able to see many places of the world together and with loved ones. One of Bernies favorite things was sports; she was the Chicago Cubs, Omaha Storm Chasers, and Vikings biggest fan. Her family has many memories with her cheering on her favorite teams. You could always count on her being at her children, grandchildren, and great grand children sports and events. She was everyones biggest cheerleader. She was selfless and would always help others in a heartbeat. You could always depend on Bernie to be there. She brought joy everywhere she went.
She was a devoted mother, grandma, GiGi, sister, and friend. She is survived by five siblings: Jean Larson, Allen Soliday, Charles Soliday, Betty Queen, and Ruth Beierle; her four children: David Rueschhoff, Bernard (Maleta) Rueschhoff, Pam (Bruce) Retzlaff, and John (Cindi) Rueschhoff; her eleven grandchildren: Sarah Rueschhoff, Nicholas (Kristin) Retzlaff, Jessica (Christopher) Englund, Jennifer Rueschhoff, Joseph (Angella) Rueschhoff, Nathan (Victoria) Retzlaff, Emily (Dylan) Stockton, Jordan Rueschhoff, Kalyn Rueschhoff, Cassidy Hood and Cadie Hood; and her thirteen great grandchildren: Keaton Englund, Sidnie Rueschhoff, Grace Rueschhoff, Tyler Medley, Kierian Olvera, Conner Rueschhoff, Brooks Retzlaff, Annabelle Retzlaff, Parker Englund, Jayce Rueschhoff, Freyja Olvera, Theon Stefanik, and Hudson Englund.
Bernie is the strongest person we know. She is a fighter and full of so much life. We are thankful she is free and at home with our Creator. There will always be a hole in our lives without her physically here with us but we know she will truly never leave us. We hope to live with half as much passion and love as she did.
Your legacy will never stop. We keep hearing endless stories of all the lives you impacted. You always made people feel so loved and welcomed everyone with open arms. You saw everyone. You are one of a kind. We love you so much Mom / Grandma / GiGi. Thank you for loving us so deeply and helping create this wonderful life we all have. We miss you so much. We’ll see you at home our dear GiGi.
There will be a celebration of her beautiful life on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at The Gathering Place (222 S Mayne St. Valley, NE 68064) from 1:00-4:00pm.
