Homer Lamar Henderson of Vero Beach, 89 passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2019. Homer was born on September 17, 1929 in Kansas City, Missouri but moved to Southern California when he was 12 years old. He was an avid swimmer, surfer and also enjoyed fishing both deep sea and freshwater. He took long walks for exercise. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas. Homer was employed by Douglas Aircraft (now Boeing) in Santa Monica, CA and after a number of years was transferred to their Huntington Beach, CA facility where he continued to work until he retired in 1985. While working at the Huntington Beach facility Homer has the privilege of working on the Skylab project which was launched and operated by NASA. Homer is survived by his longtime mate, Sheila Booker and their dog, Mandy. They have resided in Vero Beach for 7 years.
He is also survived by his sister, Betty Downard of Rosewell, CA, his daughter, Karen Derror of Grand Junction, CO, his grandson, Grant Smith III of Granite Bay, CA, granddaughter, Lucinda Smith of Rocklin, CA, grandson Cameron of San Diego, CA and great granddaughter, Abby Smith of Phoenix, AZ. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
