Birch Grove
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mom, Sylvia, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, surrounded by her loving family on July 23, 2019.
Sylvia’s greatest love was her grandchildren and all her family.
Sylvia was employed at Glace Bay General Hospital; H. H. Hopkins Ltd; Birch Grove Recreation Center for 25 years and baseball coach for 8 years.
Sylvia was a member of several community groups such as running bingo at Birch Grove Recreation Center, helping with fishing derbies and many more community activities. Sylvia was a recipient of a Community Service Award for bringing a new ball field to Birch Grove.
Sylvia is survived by her three sons, Robert (Heather), Freddie (Yvonne), Wayne (Tim) and her grandchildren, Roger (Barb), Samantha, Jarod, Brandon, Logan and special nieces Lori and Natalie. She leaves behind sisters, Joyce (Billy), Sheila (Michael) and brother Darrell (Charlene); sisters-in-law Catherine Hiscock, Gwen Boutilier, Carolyn MacIntyre, Doris O’Brien and Margie Boutilier and many loving nieces and nephews.
Sylvia was predeceased by her husband Fred (2013), parents Bob and Georgina (MacDonald) King and brother Murray King.
Visitation for Sylvia will be held on Sunday, July 28 from 2-4 &7 -9 pm at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St, Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held on Monday July 29 in Patten Funeral Home Chapel at 1 pm with Rev. Dorothy Miller officiating. A Celebration of Life will follow immediately after, taking place at Birch Grove Firehall.
Burial to take place in St. Paul’s Anglican Church Cemetery, Black Brook.
