He was a proud Navy Veteran who served on the U.S. North Carolina Battleship in WWII. Ernie took great pleasure spending time with his family and enjoyed storytelling about his lifelong passions for the outdoors...hunting, gardening and angling. He enjoyed many years of hunting in New Hampshire, tending his orchard and vegetable gardens, and fishing many waters with his handmade flies in New England, Florida, British Columbia (Burns Lake was his favorite), and Alaska. He was very proud of his New Hampshire trophy class buck, his cherished Celebrity tomatoes, and landing the World Record 33 inch Sunapee Lake Trout in 1954.
He was a loving husband for many years to his wife, Idalene Elise (Walker) Theoharis who predeceased him in 2007, and was a devoted father to his daughters, Frances (Clark) Vucci of Weymouth, MA, Barbara (Clark) Murphy and husband James Murphy of Duxbury, MA, Mary (Clark) Ste. Croix and husband Brian Ste. Croix of Marshfield, MA, and Ellen (Clark) DeLuca and longtime boyfriend Kevin Shea of Scituate, MA, niece Maria Donati and husband Paul of Brookline, NH, nephew James Pappas and his wife Paula of New Jersey, and great niece Marisa Dardagiannopoulos and husband Angelos of Nashua, NH. He is lovingly remembered as ‘Great Grampa’ by his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Emergency Room and Bigelow 14 staff at Massachusetts General Hospital for their kindness, compassion, and professional attention during his difficult challenges. Everyone already misses his sensitivity, sense of humor, and the wealth of wisdom he had gained over time.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at 11am at St. Philip Greek Orthodox Church, 500 W Hollis St. Nashua, with burial following immediately at Woodlawn Cemetery.
