Robert C. “Bob” Rose, 77, died peacefully at home on Friday, July 26, 2019 after a long and difficult battle with various lung diseases. Born on January 15, 1942 in Detroit, MI to the late Robert and Helen Rose, Bob lived in West Caldwell, NJ for the past 50 years. He received his B.S. degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1969 and began his accounting career with Ciba-Geigy Pharmaceuticals for 30 years until they merged with Sandoz to create Novartis, from which he retired 20 years ago as Manager of Cost and Inventory Accounting. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1966 and was honorably discharged as a Specialist Fifth Class, Operations and Intelligence Specialist. Bob received an Army Commendation Award for Meritorious Service and a Good Conduct Medal. He was an expert marksman and sharpshooter, receiving awards for both. On November 19, 1966 he married the love of his life, Beverly Ann Marino, and together they raised two children, Michelle and Robert. Bob was also a parishioner of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Roseland, NJ.
Bob was an avid golfer and after retiring he was generally found on the golf course. In his younger years he also enjoyed playing softball and was a fan of football. Known for his quick wit, he always made his family and friends laugh. Bob was meticulously organized, very patient, financially savvy and helped many family and friends with their taxes. He was also skilled at fixing things around the house and was happy to help anyone who needed him. Most of all, people will remember him as a devoted husband and father. He always made it a priority to be home in time for dinner with his family throughout his long career.
He is survived by Beverly, his loving wife of almost 53 years, his two children Michelle Winkle and her husband Joseph, and Robert and his wife Jeannis. He adored his four grandchildren, JP and Nicole Winkle and Christopher and Emma Rose. He is survived by his sisters Alice Anderson and Cathy Jett, and was predeceased by his brother Charles Rose.
Family and friends are invited to visit from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 1, at LaMonica Memorial Home, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave. in Livingston. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 2, at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, 28 Livingston Ave. in Roseland followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum in East Hanover.
