His five children Bill and Vicky Grant of Streator, IL, Cary Grant of Rowlett, TX, Jacqueline and Clint Henderson of Katy, TX, Crystal Coon of Balch Springs TX, son-in-law Arnie Coon of Drury, Missouri and Savannah and Kevin Molock of Balch Springs, TX. His ten grandchildren Natalie, Rachel, Jacob, Zachary, Ryan, Montgomery, Memphis, Karleigh, Joshua and William and his four great grandchildren Lathan, Carson, Michael and Gentry.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Edwin Gerald Grant, Sr. and Marjorie Elizabeth Jenkins and his granddaughter Brittany Nicole.
Ed was in the army from 1959-1965 and attended Carl Sandburg College where he studied business management. Ed spent his lifetime working and providing for his family. Most of his younger years were spent in distribution plant management. Through the years he would do anything that would provide a good living for his family. He was a servant of his community having served as the Municipal Judge and then as the Mayor for the City of Balch Springs, Texas. He was a handy man, owned a plumbing company with two of his friends and ran Peyton’s Place Storage for the last eleven and a half years.
He was an avid member and board member of the American Legion post 507 donating countless hours to a cause that was near and dear to his heart. Many of Ed’s cherished friendships were made at the American Legion chatting over a beer or two. He loved to tell stories of his life and brag on how proud he was of his family.
Ed was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. On most Sunday afternoons you would find him sitting in his recliner watching Nascar or golf with his sons and son in laws, waiting on that fabulous Sunday meal prepared by his wife, constantly cracking jokes on each other. He loved to pick with his sons as the competitiveness runs deep in his family. His greatest past time was being with his family, playing golf with his boys and grandsons Ryan and Joshua and watching his grandkids play sports. One of the things he loved to do was watch his granddaughter Montgomery play softball. In his eyes, she was the best softball player he had ever seen and he took every chance he could to brag on her. He also loved being the “bestest buddy” to his granddaughter Karleigh and the “tickle bug” to his grandsons Memphis and William. His love for his wife, five children, ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren were what he truly treasured the most. Anyone that met Ed knew just how proud he was of his family as that is what he spoke of the most. He loved to watch them all excel and never let a moment pass where he didn’t share his pride with each of them.
Ed will be missed by the ones that loved him most.
