Julio was born on July 10, 1933, in Puerto Rico, son of the Late Herminia Melendez and Ramon Freijo. Julio served in the United States Army. He met his true love, Antonia Marte, when he was 30 years old, through his cousin Doris, at a party in NY. The two of them fell in love at first sight and married six months later on a snowy Saturday afternoon in New York on December 21, 1963.
Julio worked for many years as an armed security guard in Puerto Rico, New York, and Florida, where he retired in 1991. He decided that retirement in Florida would be more interesting if he continued to work, so he continued to work at JC Penney for an additional 15 years.
Julio loved the Lord and attended church with his wife several times a week. He was always singing and looking for ways to spread joy to others. He was a supporter of the Gift of Life, a nonprofit organization founded by his daughter Rosie, whose son was born premature, at 13 weeks, in 2009. He never missed a charity event. In his honor, his wife and daughter ask that you share in his legacy, by attending the annual, “Miracles of Life Gala” to be held at Walt Disney’s Dolphin Hotel on September 26, 2020.
Julio was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Ramon Freijo and Herminia Melendez, and grandson, Robert Gaitan. He was also preceded in death by his sister Laura Freijo Calderon, and five brothers, Felipe, Manuel, Tito, Frank and Sando Ramon Freijo.
Julio is survived by his wife, Antonia Marte Freijo, sister, Graciela Melendez Perez, daughter, Rosemarie Moore and grandchildren, Christopher and Kayla Gaitan, and Kaleb Moore.
A celebration of Julio’s life will be held at 2 pm on Monday, August 12, 2019 at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, FL 34734.
In lieu of flowers, the Freijo-Moore family invite you to make a donation in honor of Julio, to The Gift of Life - www.thegiftoflife27.org - and attend The Miracles of Life Gala
