Fleurien was 86 years old, he will be loving remembered and sadly missed by his family, Doug Lizotte, Val (Rick) Whettell, Arleen (Derek) Ozunko and grandchildren Tyler (Samantha) and Eric Whettell, Justin Ozunko and Brittany (Mitch) Jessiman. Also mourning his passing are his siblings, and many nieces and nephews. Fleurien was predeceased by his wife Betty, his parents Arthur and Marguerite and brothers Denis and Claude.
He was born in Walkerburn, Manitoba and grew up on the family farm in San Clara, Manitoba. He worked with Western Asbestos and later for Xerox Canada. If you knew Fleurien you knew his passions and pastimes, golf, curling, bowling, winemaking, knitting, sewing, volunteering, inventing, creating and building, anything you asked of him he could do and do it well.
Dad’s love for the game of golf took him on many journeys to various destinations all with the same goals...
* Spend time with his friends and family,
* get the best score possible,
* find as many extra balls as he could and
* maybe get a hole in one.
He achieved all of this, including four holes-in-one many years apart and at a couple different courses. Many knew him as the “one-armed bandit” for his single hand putting style.
In his early years, he made homemade wine and won the Grand Champion Amateur Winemakers of Manitoba cup. Dad could sew, knit and create beautiful blankets. These skills he learned in his younger years from his mom.
The family would like to thank the staff at Repos-Jolys personal care home. The support and care he received in his time there was so special and appreciated. Dad always felt he was “treated like a king.”
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday August 15th, at 10:00 am, at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, Winnipeg.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that a donation be made to the Brain Tumor Foundation of Canada at braintumor.ca in memory of the love of his life, Betty Lizotte.
