Lorraine was born November 25, 1936, to Ralph and Christine (Shafer) Tautfest, one of two daughters. She was raised and resided much of her life in Independence. She later met Joe Hay and together they were united in marriage in Salem on July 16, 1961. Lorraine and Joe resided together in Salem where she worked for the state for many years. She worked for a time for the Marion County Circuit Court, the Marion County Tax Assessor's Office and retired from the Department of Employment in 1995.
Lorraine loved being outside in her garden. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking, and quilting at times. Together she and Joe loved to travel and go RV'ing. They put over 70,000 miles on their RV crossing the United States together in retirement.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Ruth Tautfest.
She is survived by, her husband of 58 years, Joe; daughter, Shelly Diaz de Leon; 3 grandchildren, Nathaniel, Nicholas (Brittany) and Tia; and great-granddaughter, Lillian.
A private graveside service will take place at Restlawn Memory Gardens of Salem. Memorial service will be at 11am, Monday, August 19, 2019, at the Salem First Baptist Church.
