The magnificent and beautiful Pearlie Deloise Lewis was brought into the world on August 17, 1948 to Thelma Lilllie and Hersey Harris in Garrison, Texas. She fell in love and married Chester Lewis and had two wonderful children, August Patrice Lewis and Carl Delfreno Lewis.
Taking the world by storm, she left Garrison for the Rocky Mountains, living in Denver and Boulder, Colorado. Always the active achiever she began working at IBM and became a member at Second Baptist Church singing in the choir, organizing outdoor trips and leading the congregation through praise and worship.
Sweet like brown sugar, Pearl had an elegant way of making everyone feel like they were her best friend, they mattered, and were important. Her grace was contagious, and her constant smile and laughter lit up any room. People will always marvel about her gardens and take comfort in the meals they were able to share.
After retiring from IBM she returned to Nacogdoches where she continued to give back to her community by becoming a certified Educational Aide at Nacogdoches High School. She also became a dedicated member at Johnson Chapel Baptist Church where she continued her love for praise and worship. Her passion and devotion to Christ and youth was constantly illustrated throughout her life. In Pearl’s later years she began sailing around the world with her shipmates, seeing places like Jamaica, Cozumel, and the Cayman Islands.
Pearl received her angelic wings on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Nacogdoches Medical Center.
She leaves her legacy to her children, August Lewis of Arlington, Texas and Carl Lewis of Denver, Colorado. She had 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 17, 2019, at Johnson Chapel Baptist Church in Nacogdoches with Pastor Clarence Yarbrough officiating. Interment will follow at Mast Cemetery in Garrison.
