Laurie was born on October 16, 1973 in Winnipeg, MB, and is survived by her parents Edward and Sophie Turko, brother Jeffrey Turko, and family in Manitoba, Ontario, and Alberta.
Laurie grew up in St. Vital, Winnipeg, and attended Christ the King school and church, where she was an altar server. She enjoyed attending Brownies and Girl Guides, with her mom as group leader. Laurie became involved in her love for dance, by attending tap, and Ukrainian classes at a young age. She went on to attend Holy Cross, and St. Boniface Diocesan schools, and graduated from Glenlawn Collegiate in 1991, and then moved with her family to East St. Paul, MB.
Growing up she loved spending time with her family camping and at her grandparent’s farm in Stonewall, MB. In 1997 she worked at Club Regent Casino, and later McPhillips Casino until 2011, when she pursued her childhood dream of becoming a registered nurse. In 2016 Laurie graduated with her Bachelor of Nursing degree from Red River College. She began her nursing career caring for others in Family Medicine at Concordia hospital, until September 2018. Laurie loved fashion, dancing, Zumba classes, and spending time with family and friends.
