Old Saybrook — John (Jack) H. Martin died peacefully on Monday, August 19, 2019 following a magnificent thunderstorm with his family by his side. Jack spent over 40 years living in Westbrook where he was known for an easy smile and easier story to share, whether at the Fox Hopyard Golf Club, the St. Paul Lutheran Church or Pointina Beach.
Jack was born on March 4, 1923 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada — the son of Henry and Agnes Martin. He worked various positions before settling into the piano sales business, eventually opening Clinton Piano in downtown Hartford. He was a longtime brother of the St. Mark Masonic Lodge No. 36 in Simsbury.
After closing his store he embarked on many other careers, including Millstone and most-recently Whalen Engineering where he retired in February 2018.
Jack is survived by his three children and their spouses — Taylor and Deborah Martin; Cheryl and Arthur Cardillo and Jacquelyn and James Edwin II. He also leaves behind, four loving grandchildren Michael Cardillo, Jessica Edwin, Peter Cardillo and James Edwin III, as well as, four nephews and two nieces.
Jack is predeceased by his beloved wife Irma and brothers Donald and Harry Martin, along with dear friend Gerry Bengston.
As Jack would often say, “Have a good day today and a better one tomorrow!” He will be missed by many.
