Born on June 13, 1923, in Boston, she was the daughter of Angelo and Jenny (Rossetti) Luccio. She was raised in Boston and graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Roxbury. Mrs. O’Connor took great pride in her family, from raising her children to doting on her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, whom she loved dearly. She was a generous woman and enjoyed cooking and hosting gatherings. She also loved to dance and taught ballroom dancing with her husband at the Civic Center in Norwood. Mel was a woman of strong faith and a dedicated communicant of St. Timothy’s Church in Norwood.
Beloved wife of the late George T. O’Connor, with whom she shared forty years of marriage until his passing in 1990; devoted mother of the late Bart A. O’Connor, who passed in 2017, George T. O’Connor Jr. and his wife Rosemary of Westwood, Maryann O’Connor of Millis, William O’Connor and his wife Marie of Norwood; cherished grandmother of William, Kathleen, Mark, Daniel, Janellen, Alex, and Catherine; proud great grandmother of Kylee, Elizabeth, and Kelsey.
She also leaves many beloved nieces and nephews and was predeceased by ten siblings, Louis Luccio, Sanduccio Luccio, Concetta Deyesso, Angelina Munafo, Rose Rapazzini, Agnes Ballarino, Mary Houde, Josephine Quercia, Louise Gannon, and Antonetta Delpidio.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, August 28, 2019, at 10AM at St. Timothy’s Church, 650 Nichols Street, Norwood. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Norwood.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 27, from 4-8PM at Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street (Route 1A), Norwood.
