Norman was born and raised in Reading England. After leaving school, Norman joined the Royal Navy where he earned his degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of London, returning to earn another in Mechanical Engineering. Norman was an avid athlete who enjoyed and excelled at long distance running and cycling. He also loved to swim, especially in the ocean.
In 1954 Norman married the love of his life, Sylvia and at the time of his passing they were close to celebrating 65 years of marriage. Norman and Sylvia had 4 boys in rapid succession. After working in the steel industry in Norway, Spain and England, Norman, Sylvia and boys immigrated to Canada in 1967. Before retirement Norman worked in the steel and mining industry which took him to Winnipeg, Thompson and Yellowknife. Along the way Norman earned his pilot’s license. He loved to fly and for many years owned his own plane. Norman and Sylvia retired in 1991 and returned to Winnipeg. Not liking the Winnipeg winters, they purchased a home in Mazatlan, Mexico in 1992 at which they have spent every winter since. During retirement Norman and Sylvia travelled the world, something they loved to do.
Recently Norman celebrated his 90th birthday with a party that saw friends and family attending from England, Wales, the US and Canada. Even at 90, Norman could still get up and dance. His love of life was evident and he was a true Bon Vivant. He touched the lives of so many people and he will be dearly missed.
Norman is survived by his beloved wife Sylvia; sons Adrian (Nora), Nigel (Janice), and Gareth (Ursula).
He is predeceased by his son Colin (Shanaz); and his sister Sheila.
