Charles "Bubbie" McGinnis

Charles Douglas McGinnis, Jr., 98, of Olive Branch, passed away August 31, 2019. Also known as Uncle Bub or Bubbie, he was born February 6, 1921 the second son of Julia Smith and Charles D. McGinnis, Sr. Mr. McGinnis was one of six children, four boys and two girls. He was a WWII Veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps. Bub worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and retired in 1977. He loved sports and played baseball and golf. Bub was a University of Tennessee fan followed by "Memphis State" and Notre Dame. He coached with his brothers at some of the Catholic schools including Blessed Sacrament and St. Michael. Bub was generous to those who needed help but was definitely thrifty. He was a meat and potatoes kind of guy and didn't like rice because of how much they had to eat it during the depression. A lifelong bachelor, he lived with his mother and sister and they all took care of each other. He was preceded in death by 4 siblings, Elizabeth Clare, Tom, Gene, and James "Poochie." He is survived by one sister, Margaret McGinnis. The family will receive friends Friday, September 6, 2019 from 10-11am and funeral mass will be said immediately following at 11am, all at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Memphis. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Brantley Funeral Home of Olive Branch has been entrusted with the care of the family.
