Frederick J. Steffens went to his heavenly home on September 1, 2019 at age 89. He was the son of Carl and Florence (Jost) Steffens of Comstock Park. Fred was preceded in death by his parents and all his siblings: brothers, Edwin (Gert), Albert, Arthur (Ima) and sisters, Mary Ann (Maurice) Grose and Phyllis (Bob) VanKeuren; his son-in-law Gary Juhlin and infant son Freddy. Surviving are Christine, his wife of 66 years, children Dennis (Mary Jo) Steffens, Nadine (Dan) Zarzecki, Mary (Greg Tusch) Juhlin, Gary Steffens, Michelle Yoder, Robert (Barbara Lukasik) Steffens, and James (Toni) Steffens. Grandchildren Ryan (Liz), Travis (Kaelee) and Sarah Steffens; Nadia, Adam (Casey) Zarzecki and Tanya (Jen) Lascari; David (Stephanie) and Dana Juhlin; Raymond and Melissa Yoder; and Zachary Simms. Great grandchildren, Tobias, Rohen, Melanie, Izaiah, and Madelyn. Sister-in-law Marge Steffens and several nieces, nephews, in-laws and extended family. Fred proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the destroyer Robert A. Owens. Upon discharge he worked as a custom sheet metal fabricator in area shops. Fred was a loyal fan of the Tigers, Lions and MSU teams. He also coached and supported his children in all their school and sporting events. Fred enjoyed traveling with family to many interesting areas in the United States, Canada, Europe, Caribbean, and Mexico. Fishing was also a favorite lifelong pastime. Fred was a loving, devoted husband, father, grandpa, and great grandpa who will be sincerely missed. Visitation will be Friday, September 6 from 2-4 and 6-8 at Reyers North Valley Chapel and one hour prior to funeral services at St. Jude Catholic Church. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, September 7 at 11:00 at St. Jude’s Catholic Church with Rev. Tom Page presiding. Military Honors will be conducted with burial at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to VA Outpatient Facility in Wyoming or Hope Network Foundation.
