Reginald Nelson Lavong,II passed away on September 2, 2019. He had been battling congestive heart failure for the past few months. Reggie, the son of the late Reginald and Joyce Lavong was born October 11, 1955 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Reggie was the oldest of four children, Daryl, April, and Jocelyn. Reggie and his family lived in several different states. Most of his education was completed in Philadelphia, PA. He graduated from Bishop McDevitt High School in 1973. While in school Reggie, was a skilled athlete in football and basketball. After graduation, Reggie attended Temple University of Philadelphia and studied Business Administration/Marketing. He utilized his education by working at Bloomingdales as a Manager/Buyer for their Mens Department as well as doing fashion modeling.
Reggie moved to Texas and became the General Manager of a Long DIstance Company (LDS). His business expertise led him to become President and CEO of Mortgage Assistance Program and he continued in this successful field for the remainder of his life.
Reggie met Janet Gant in 1991. They dated, fell in love, and were married September 5, 1992. On February 1, 2002, their daughter Chelsi was born. Reggie’s joy in being a father was unmeasured. He was a devoted husband and father.
He was very involved in his church family at Sugar Creek Baptist Church. He enjoyed serving in several ministries including Homelife, Grouplink, Upward Basketball as a Coach, and Director of the Lighthouse Adult Fellowship. Reggie’s main focus in life was to win souls to Christ! One of his favorite scriptures was Romans 10:9-10.
Reggie was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan! He also enjoyed hanging out with friends and family, playing dominoes, and watching a good movie. Listening to Jazz music was his passion. He leaves many loved ones to cherish memories of his purposeful life: his devoted and loving wife Janet, his beloved daughter Chelsi, his siblings Daryl, April, and Jocelyn, sisters-in-law, Cornelia, Roslyn, and Sonya, brother-in-law James Gant Jr., nieces and nephews Joyce, Wesley, Carlton, Leona, Jahshua, Kortney, Kendrick, and Taylor along with a host of other relatives and friends.
