Clay was born on September 26, 1960, to Cal and Karen Murdock in Rexburg, Idaho. It was here, in Idaho that his passion for horses, specifically race horses, began. He spent most of his youth as a jockey in both Idaho and Montana, winning the first race he ever jockeyed at 16 years old.
At 19, Clay left Idaho for Southern California, in pursuit of his horse racing dreams. He started at the bottom, living in stalls and ended at the top, managing one of the largest breeding farms in the state. He dreamed big, worked hard, and credited his success to blessings from God.
Clay was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Most recently, serving as Bishop in a Paso Robles ward. He loved his Savior Jesus Christ and tried to serve and help those around him at every opportunity.
Clay’s number one passion in life was his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Dena of 29 years; daughters Cindy (Jeff), Camryn, and Casi; Sons, Mitchell, and Cody (Sara); and Grandchildren, Calvin, Boston, Charlotte, Corissa, Kenton, and Monroe.
Clay was also survived by his father, Cal Murdock, and sisters Kaylene (Mark), Kim (Craig), and Kallie (Rob).
He was preceded in death by his dear mother, Karen Murdock and sister Krystle (Kevin).
Clay was known to always have a smile on his face. He had a warm and welcoming hand out ready to help anyone in need. Clay loved to laugh, and had a great sense of humor—his Dad jokes were on point. He was well-known in the thoroughbred industry as both a great horseman and honest businessman. He was kind, loving, and will be greatly missed.
