William O. “Bill” Bradford, 83, of Cartersville, GA went home to be with the Lord and Savior September 4, 2019. Born March 21, 1936 in Pine Log GA to his parents Dr. Harry and Rosebud Bradford, Bill attended Cartersville High School, and then graduated from the University of Georgia with his B.B.A. He retired from Life of Georgia Insurance after 30 years of dedicated service. He also served his country in the Georgia/Florida National Guard; His personal time was full of fellowship and service to his community. Bill and his wife Peggy were square dancers from 1980-1999, docents for the Booth Museum, delivery drivers for meals-on-wheels, and supporters of the Scott’s BBQ social club. Bill also enjoyed mastering crossword puzzles, building model cars, feeding his backyard birds, cheering on his GA Bulldogs, and napping with his canine buddies. A gentle giant, Bill was affectionately known as “Bull” by his great nieces and nephews, and his great grandchildren, Bill was a genuine family man who found his greatest pride and joy in interacting with the people he loved. He faithfully served his Lord and was a member of Sam Jones Memorial United Methodist Church since 1948. Bill served on many boards and duties. He was a charter member of the Marco Sunday School Class. Bill married the love of his life, Peggy Stewart in this church in 1960, brought up his two daughters here, and will celebrate receiving his wings at this alter.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Harry B. and Rosebud Bradford, sisters; Cora Harris Bradford, Alma Fryar, Sarah Strickland, and Rosebud White, and brother, Crawford Strickland.
He leaves a legacy of love in the hearts and souls of his beloved family. Peggy, his wife of 59 years, adoring daughters; Cheri (Tommy) Hayes of Rocky Mount, NC, Beth Bradford of Cartersville, GA, brother, Harry (Lucy) Bradford of Orlando, FL, and step-daughter, Pam (Johnny) Davis of Macon, GA, three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, in laws, cousins, friends, and canine pal, Sasha also survive to cherish Bill’s Memory.
The family would like to send a special thanks to their family and friends, the Hope Center, Doctors: Sidlow, Mehta, Mongia, and Tayara and the entire staff of Cartersville Medical Center.
The family will receive friends at Owen Funeral Home, Saturday September 7, 2019 from five o’clock in the evening until eight.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at Sam Jones Memorial United Methodist Church with the Reverend Kevin Lobello officiating, Sunday, September 8, 2019 at three o’clock in the afternoon. Bill will lie in state in the sanctuary from two o’clock in the afternoon until the service hour. Interment will follow the service at Sunset Memory Gardens, Cartersville.
