Lanny Joe Goodman was born on March 17, 1941 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was the only child of parents, Hershel Darrell Goodman and Alene Flanagan Goodman. He went to be with our lord and passed peacefully in his sleep in the early morning on September 6, 2019 in Carrollton, Texas with his devoted wife of 53 years by his side.
Lanny grew up in Fort Worth and was a self-affirmed proud Texan who also loved claiming his Irish heritage. He joined the Army in 1959 and reached the rank of Specialist in the 101st Airborne. He was based in Korea during the Vietnam War. He served in Military Intelligence and was honorably discharged in 1962.
After serving his country, Lanny attended college at Arlington State College and Southern Methodist University majoring in Accounting. He went on to become a cost accountant. A highlight of his career occurred when he worked for Alyeska during the construction of the Trans-Alaska pipeline in the mid-1970s.
He met the love of his life, Peggy Currey, in Arlington and married her on June 18, 1966 in Lawton, Oklahoma. Lanny and Peggy had three children; Kelley Goodman Peacock, Kevin Bryan and Kyle Currey Goodman. He also had 2 grandsons, Jackson Nathaniel Goodman and Liam Hunter Goodman.
Later in life, Lanny enjoyed spending time reading novels, hunting, and fishing. He and Peggy relished in cheering for the Dallas Cowboys and playing with their young grandsons.
Everything is so pretty here, so white, so fresh, so new.
I wish that you could close your eyes so you could see it too.
Please try not to be sad for me.
Try to understand.
God is taking care of me…
I’m in the shelter of His hands.
Here there is no sadness, and no sorrow, and no pain.
Here there is no crying, and I’ll never hurt again.
Here it is so peaceful, when all the angels sing.
I really have to go for now…
I’ve just got to try my wings.
John 16:22
“Therefore you too have grief now; but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.”
