Helen was born in Emo, Ontario on April 12, 1920. Her family moved to Kenora when she was 24 years old. She had polo in her late teens. This was a challenge for Helen as she had to learn everyday tasks like walking and talking all over again. She took piano lessons growing up, but was unable to play after she had polio.
She was an avid gardener. When she was no longer able to tend to her vegetable and flower gardens she continued to grow flowers in her home.
She loved to knit for her Grandsons. Now, her Great Grandsons wear their Dad's knitted sweaters. She had unconditional love for all of her grandchildren who were so special to her in so many ways.
She always had a jigsaw puzzle on the go and she spent many hours working on crosswords puzzles. She loved all animals, especially dogs, cats and birds and was known to feed them from time to time.
