Mrs. Dorothy Marie Earl was born on January 23, 1927, in Williamsburg County, South Carolina to late Robert M. Stewart and Bertha White Stewart. Dorothy received her early childhood education in both North and South Carolina and in 1949 while attending Columbia Hospital School of Nursing in South Carolina, and working for the American Red Cross, Dorothy graduated and was declared a Registered Nurse.
A Season to Work and Love:
Shortly thereafter, in 1951, Dorothy relocated to Washington, DC where she began an exemplary career as a Registered Nurse. It was also during this time that she met an army soldier, Robert S. Earl, who became her beloved husband of over 62 years and out of this union God blessed them with two children, Sidney and Donna. During Robert's tenure in the army, the family traveled the world together and upon their return to the States, Dorothy continued her career path in Nursing serving as a Registered Nurse for Fort Gordon Hospital in Fort Gordon, Ga for over seven years. While the army served the Earl family well allowing them the opportunity to settle down anywhere, they chose to make DC their home and Dorothy continued following her passion for nursing by working at DC General Hospital for 25 years.
A Season to Build Up and Plant:
Dorothy loved her profession and served her patients and colleagues well. After offering DC Government 30 years of faithful service and retiring, Dorothy did not stop serving, she continued to volunteer for Nursing Homes, The American Red Cross and at Area "C" Mental Health service.
A Season to Die and Dance:
After enduring Kidney disease for several years Dorothy was called home to be with the Lord and her beloved, Robert, on September 13, 2019.
A Season to Mourn and Heal:
And while Dorothy has physically left this place, she will continue to serve as a nurse angel over her son Sidney W. Earl, her daughter Donna M. Earl, daughter-in-law Denise E. Cannon-Earl, niece Eunice Stewart and a host of family members and friends.
