Evelyn Annette Etzler Ahlgrim, age 86, was born to Paul and Hedwig Leopold Etzler in Hallettsville, Texas. She married Charles Lawrence Ahlgrim, from Columbus, Texas, on October 11, 1955 and they moved to Houston, Texas. She was blessed with 3 children, 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was an active member of St. Matthew The Evangelist Catholic Church, where she attended mass weekly. Over the years she was a member of the 50 Plus Club and helped at the annual bazaar.
Evelyn enjoyed bingo, bunco and dominoes, especially 42. She liked taking the bus with her friends to the casinos and considered any day she broke even to be a great day. Her motto was “You got to bet the max to win big!”
Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, whether that was playing games or traveling with them. She loved having them all together and even made it possible for everyone to spend a few holidays at the beach and in the hill country. She made holidays particularly fun by providing prizes for all to win while playing fun and silly games. Easter at her house was particularly fun and everyone enjoyed the Easter egg hunt and ball games. It was especially important to Evelyn that everyone knew they were loved equally. Her generous gifts were just one of the ways she showed this. She was a great cook and her dressing, potato salad, homemade noodle soup, angel food cake, custard pie, banana nut bread, cinnamon roll and coffee cake will be extremely missed.
Home is where the heart is and hers was landscaped beautifully. She enjoyed working in her flower beds and around her house and even received yard of the month.
