children at the age of 75. Raised in Fairview Park, Ohio, David attended the College of Wooster,
the University of Virginia, and Case Western Reserve University, ultimately receiving a PhD in
History. Following his work as Director of Giving for Case Western, he took a position teaching
history at Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, where he touched the lives of
many future historians and history enthusiasts. He was involved in the Ohio History Day
Program from its inception and coordinated the First-Year program at Westminster College. He
served as a Board Member of the Pennsylvania Council for History Education and was a
member of the New Wilmington Rotary Club. David was an active member of the Presbyterian
Church his entire life where he served as an Elder, youth leader, and adult Sunday school
teacher. David was an avid reader, music lover, and community activist. He enjoyed traveling
to historical sites and discussing history and politics with students and family, especially his
grandchildren.
David cherished his family and friends above all, and he will be remembered, memorialized, and
missed by all those whose lives he enhanced. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles,
and his mother, Peggy. He is survived by Lora, his wife of 52 years, his sisters Susan and Chris,
his brother Steve, and his three children and their families – Rachel (Ric) and her four children,
Emily, Thomas, Gabby, and William; Beverly (Drew) and her three children, Audrey, Alex, and
Ashlynn; and his son Matthew (Katie) and his two daughters, Madeline and Elena.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be sent to the Presbyterian College Undergraduate
Scholarship Fund.
Private burial will be at Lakewood Park Cemetery. Celebration of Life services
will be held at Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia, on October 19th at 1 o’clock
and at Lakewood Presbyterian Church in Lakewood, Ohio, on November 16th at 1 o’clock.
