Leo was born on September 5th, 1938, near Tahlequah, Oklahoma to Maggie and Reverend Levi Flute, and then raised in Adair County.
Just as the Korean conflict ended, young Leo joined the U.S. Navy and served as a crew member aboard the U.S.S. Ranger (CV-61).
In 1960, Leo moved to Dallas where he met Charlotte Ann Greenwood of Eufaula, Oklahoma. They married in Durant, Oklahoma on March 3rd, 1962. The Flutes started their family in the Dallas metro area and remained there for the rest of their lives. Leo worked for Solar Turbines, Inc., for 30 years, while Charlotte taught, before retiring to spend more time with Grandma and the grandkids.
Leo loved exploring the outdoors and meeting people. He, Charlotte, and their son Roman and spent summers on the road, camping and exploring North America with friends and family, including the Bettis, Neilson, Kimmel, Greenwood, and Epperson families.
Leo was a true man of faith and his life exhibited his love for God and for all people.
Leo is preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Ann Flute, and his parents Maggie and Levi Flute. Leo's brothers Charlie Thirsty, Tom Thirsty, Norman Flute, and Watt Flute have all walked on before Leo, as well.
Leo is survived by his sister, Peggy Flute, his son, Roman Flute, daughter-in-law, Suzy Flute, and his grandchildren, Kendyl Flute, and Ethan Flute, as well as a rich extended family, adopted family, friends, co-workers, and church family, all of whom will miss him dearly.
Services will be at Reed-Culver Funeral Home in Tahlequah, Oklahoma with Brother Steve Campbell officiating at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 1st. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. at McIntosh Family Cemetery near Eufaula, Oklahoma. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church in Corinth, Texas at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 4th with Senior Pastor, Bruce Larson, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution in Leo's honor to Stand Up To Cancer, or your charity of choice.
