Russell J. Hnat passed away September 26, 2019 in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born October 6, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois to Loretta M. Kozla and Andrew G. Hnat. Russell graduated from Hirsch High School in June of 1950.
Russell joined the US Air Force in 1952 and achieved a high rank as A/1C (P) and was Airman First Class Officer. He served in Korean War. He received many commendations. He received NATDEFSM, KSM, UN SVC Medal, ACr/M Badge and GC Medal. One of Russell’s most significant duty assignments was to be on the 34th Bomb squad (TAC). Russell was honorable discharged.
In July of 1980, Russell married the love of his life Janet M. Hnat. They recently celebrated 39 years of marriage.
Russell was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved learning about planes and reading the history about them.
Russell was a loyal fan of his football. He had two favorite football teams, the “Chicago Bears” and the Arizona Cardinals. Russell loved listening to the “Big Band”, any type of oldies and country music.
Although he had many hobbies and pastimes, his favorite thing was to spend time with his wife and family.
Russell J. Hnat is preceded in death by his beloved parents Andrew G. Hnat and Loretta Kozla.
Russell is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Janet M. Hnat; Son; Scott Hnat of Prescott, AZ, Daughter; Lana Pearil of Phoenix, AZ, Grandchildren; Taryn Hnatwebb, Shayne Hnat, Sean Furlong, Megan Downey and Ian Furlong, Great grandchildren; Abilgail, Remington, Claire, Cora, Paige, Jaxon, Kendall, Verity and Ollie, Niece; Penny, Nephew(s); Rik and Kirby.
Russell will continue to be loved and missed by all.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 3, 2019 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Funeraria del Angel Greer Wilson Chapel 5921 W. Thomas Road, Phoenix, Arizona 85033. Graveside Service with Military Honors at West Resthaven Park Cemetery 6450 W. Northern Avenue Glendale, Arizona 85301 on October 4, 2019 at 12:30 pm.
